WHAT WILL THE CITY OF THE FUTURE BE LIKE? WHICH NEW TECHNOLOGIES?

Toyota is building a Smart City at the foot of Mount Fuji.

This city will serve as a living lab for new technologies and autonomous vehicles.

It will be populated by people who have volunteered to live there.

Toyota is broadening its scope to include the daily mobility of people, goods and information. In this context and to be at the forefront of future developments, Toyota has decided to build Woven City, the construction of which started in 2021. The population will initially consist of 360 enthusiasts, and will eventually reach 2'000 inhabitants.

The approach presented for this project is based on three central principles: the "human-centered" approach, which respects and prioritizes people's needs and preferences; the "living lab" approach, which allows new technologies to be tested in the real world; and the "constantly evolving" approach, which allows these new technologies and services to develop and improve continuously.

In Woven City, three types of streets will be built: one for autonomous vehicles, one for pedestrians and one for personal vehicles. In addition, an underground street will be used to transport goods.

This futuristic project should see the blossoming of new technologies for the city and mobility of tomorrow.
